Stress and Weight Loss
From the desk of Dr. Sean Patterson
Many people have been almost brainwashed to think that the scale is the most important factor in accurately
assessing their weight and health.
The BMI (Body Mass Index) is a great tool for identifying risk and warranting further evaluation. However,
as most of you know, we are all shaped and built differently.
Hormone Stress If your adrenal hormones are stressed, than
you may NOT be able to burn fat. The human body is not meant to be living in “fight or flight” mode. I commonly
see women who work out harder than I ever could, with little to no results. I actually work with many women who
gain weight while on a exercise/nutrition routine. When the body is stressed, it usually CAN NOT burn fat. If
you lose weight while stressed, chances are you are breaking down its muscle tissue or dehydrating.
Stress I will bet you think of stress as “emotional”. Which
IS ABSOLUTELY one of the factors I look at in accessing your metabolism and setting goals for you. What I want
to offer you, is that stress can also look like; too much sugar, not enough sleep, the wrong kind of exercise,
and electromagnetic pollution from computers and cell phones.
It is imperative that we perform a stress analysis of your life and metabolism to establish how to get you out
of “fight or flight” and into FAT BURNING.
